OldStars

OldStars tennis is an initiative of the National Foundation for the Elderly and the KNLTB. Our club started this in 2021, as the first club in Amstelveen.

In the summer, games are played at Park Startbaan (Thursday mornings), and in the winter at NTC De Kegel (Thursday afternoons).

The number of participants has now increased from 7 in 2021 to 28 in early 2026.

This way of playing tennis makes it possible to stay active well into old age and actively work on your health.

What is OldStars tennis?


OldStars tennis is an adapted form of the game, ideally suited for seniors who want to stay active in a healthy way. It also offers new opportunities for people who have already stopped playing tennis to be active on the court again and meet new people. Participants using OldStars tennis as part of a rehabilitation program appear to be a new target group. A proper warm-up under expert guidance is included, focusing on coordination, motor skills, and balance. However, tennis technique and tactics are also covered. OldStars tennis is a safe and responsible form of the game where tennis, exercise, improving your fitness, and of course, the fun of playing take center stage. And having a cup of coffee together afterwards makes your tennis morning complete! The familiar rules are adapted as desired:


  • doubles on singles court
  • serve underhand
  • The ball may bounce twice.
  • 40-40 = winning point
  • playing with a green ball, which is softer and does not go as fast.


What does a match day look like?


  • You play on a fixed day of the week: Thursday from 10 to 12 or from 11 to 13.
  • You play in a small group led by Wim Gomersbach
  • You don't need to reserve a court, Wim does that.
  • You first do an extensive warm-up together.
  • You then play a few shortened sets of OldStars tennis.
  • After two hours of good exercise, there is time for coffee or a sandwich.


How does OldStars tennis work at LTC Startbaan?


You can play OldStars tennis at LTC Startbaan in four ways:


  • You are a member of LTC Startbaan and you want to participate in OldStars tennis in addition to your existing membership. You pay €80 on top of the membership fee to LTC Startbaan. For 2024, that is therefore €230 €80 = €310.
  • You are a member of LTC Startbaan and only want to play OldStars tennis. You pay €140.
  • You are a member of another tennis club. You pay €140, minus €10 = €130, in addition to the membership fee to your own club. (The KNLTB membership of €20 is split between both clubs you are a member of.)
  • You are not a member of a tennis club and pay €140. You do, however, automatically become a member of LTC Startbaan, because due to insurance requirements, you can only play on the outdoor courts with a membership.
