Nieuwsbrief juli 2026 LTC Startbaan

Er is in de afgelopen maand wederom veel gebeurd op het park. We hebben succesvolle toernooien gehad met OST, Nations Cup en de Wimbledon-dag met 105 en Partymix. Vrijdag is er een speciale Americano. En in augustus volgen alweer de Jour des Hommes / Jour des Dames en de Clubkampioenschappen. 

En er is nog veel meer nieuws te melden, onder meer over de winteractiviteiten in de blaashal, de vrijwilligers vacatures, de zomersluiting en Americano. Verder een verslag van Rolf Bredschneijder, onze 1100e lid, wat een mooie mijlpaal is binnen onze tennisclub. Hij vertelt over zijn rol als parkmanager.

Agenda

In de maand juli zijn er veel toss-mogelijkheden. Raadpleeg de agenda op de website. Daarnaast komen de volgende toernooien er aan:

• 10 juli - Americano op 12 banen 
  Deze komende vrijdag 10 juli hebben we een super Americano van 19.30 tot 21.30. Er kan op alle twaalf banen gespeeld worden. Het gaat dus een hele gezellige avond worden! Na afloop is er voor iedereen een gratis drankje en een lekkerhapje. Inschrijven kan via LTC Startbaan, Amstelveen - Tennis Activiteiten
  
  

• 9 augustus - Jour des Hommes en Jour des Dames
  Op zondag 9 augustus spelen we het gezellige Jour des Dames en Jour des Hommes toernooi. De insteek is om damesdubbels, herendubbels en af en toe een mixdubbel te spelen in een gezellige en ontspannen sfeer. We proberen zo in te delen dat we gelijkwaardige wedstrijden krijgen.
  
  Naast het tennis wordt er ook lekker gegeten en gedronken. We beginnen de dag met een kopje koffie of thee vanaf 10.00. Om 10.30 is de eerste speelronde en om 11.15 de tweede speelronde.
  
  Van 12.30 tot 13.15 wordt de traditionele lunch geserveerd met een broodje kroket (vlees of vega) een broodje ham of kaas, een krentenbol en een glas melk of karnemelk. Van 13.15 tot 15.00 spelen we de laatste twee rondes. Om 15.00 is dan een gezellige afsluiting.
  
  Dankzij een bijdrage uit het Rien Hogerwerf fonds en een kleine clubbijdrage kunnen wij de Jour met tennis, een lunch en een koffie/thee aanbieden voor slechts € 7,50 per speler. Betaling kan op de dag zelf.

• 22 – 30 augustus - Clubkampioenschappen
  Vanaf zaterdag 22 tot en met zondag 30 augustus is een van de jaarlijkse hoogtepunten op de tenniskalender: de clubkampioenschappen.
  
  Dit is altijd een hele gezellige week. De wedstrijden spelen we in een poules. We houden veel rekening met alle verhinderingen en voorkeuren. Deelname is gratis.
  
  Zaterdag 29 augustus is er weer de heerlijke fruitstal met Erwin. In de avond spelen we de pubquiz.
  
  Kortom, volop reden om te strijden voor de titel van clubkampioen! We zien jullie dan graag.

Vrijwilligers Jeugd Najaarscompetitie
Help jij onze jeugd aan een geweldige competitie-ochtend? Voor de Najaarscompetitie zoeken we enthousiaste vrijwilligers op de volgende zondagochtenden (08.30–12.00 uur) op 13, 20 en 27 september · 4 en 11 oktober

Je kiest zelf hoeveel dagen je meehelpt — één dag is al meer dan welkom! Geen ervaring nodig, je staat er nooit alleen voor.

Je helpt mee bij de begeleiding van wedstrijden voor kinderen van 6 t/m 17 jaar: teams ontvangen, naar de banen begeleiden en een oogje in het zeil houden. Plezier staat voorop!

Lid nummer 1100… en nog lang niet uitgespeeld

Dat ik uitgerekend het 1100e lid van LTC Park Startbaan ben geworden, is natuurlijk een leuke toevalligheid. Sommigen zullen misschien zeggen dat ik daar als parkmanager stiekem invloed op heb gehad. Helaas, zelfs ik kan het ledenadministratiesysteem niet omkopen.

Mijn naam is Rolf Bredschneijder en sinds 2025 parkmanager van Park Startbaan. Daarnaast werk ik nog altijd met veel plezier als trainer en loopbaancoach. Tennis loopt als een rode draad door mijn leven. Niet alleen op het park, maar ook thuis. Ik ben vader van twee zoons die allebei fulltime actief zijn in de tenniswereld. Aan de keukentafel gaat het dus zelden over het weer.

Als parkmanager kijk ik graag verder dan vandaag. Samen met het bestuur van Park Startbaan werk ik aan een toekomstbestendig park. Dat betekent niet alleen zorgen dat de banen er goed bij liggen en samen te werken met groundsman Gijs Abelen, maar vooral nadenken over de vraag hoe ons park er over tien jaar uit moet zien. Het Toekomst Atelier (visiemeeting met stakeholders op het park), de plannen voor een blaashal en het onderzoek naar de beste gravelsoort onder de blaashal, zijn daar mooie voorbeelden van. Dat laatste betekende overigens niet alleen veel vergaderen, maar vooral veel tennisparken bezoeken, ervaringen ophalen en met vakmensen spreken. 

Ook tijdens het Open Startbaan Toernooi ben ik actief. Misschien heb je mij gezien met mijn iPhone in de hand voor interviews met NRT-spelers. Een mooie manier om spelers/speelsters en Park Startbaan via social media op de kaart te zetten.

Nieuwsgierig zijn zit in mijn natuur. Daarom ga ik regelmatig op bezoek bij andere tennisverenigingen, spreek ik met de KNLTB en volg ik de ontwikkelingen binnen de tennissport op de voet. Goede ideeën verdienen het om gedeeld te worden. Zo halen we het beste naar Park Startbaan én inspireren we anderen met onze eigen ervaringen. Dat is veel leuker dan steeds zelf het wiel uit te vinden.

Dat ik nu ook lid nummer 1100 ben, voelt daarom als een leuke bonus. Ik ben misschien parkmanager, maar nu ook lid van de vereniging. En dat betekent ook zelf weer de baan op! Na jarenlang vooral bezig te zijn geweest met golf, ga ik mijn eigen tennis weer serieus oppakken. Het mooie daarvan? Dat ik eindelijk les kan nemen van Xander Spong. Ik ben benieuwd of hij net zoveel geduld met mij heeft als ik de afgelopen jaren met mensen die ik heb gecoacht.

En zolang ik nog ideeën heb om Park Startbaan nóg mooier te maken én mijn forehand nog wat beter kan, ben ik voorlopig nog lang niet uitgespeeld.

Winteractiviteiten in de blaashal

Hoewel de winter misschien nog ver weg lijkt, willen we jullie alvast enthousiast maken voor een sportief en sfeervol winterseizoen bij LTC Startbaan.

Vanaf oktober hopen we gebruik te kunnen maken van de blaashal: dé plek om ook tijdens de koude wintermaanden warm en gezellig te blijven tennissen.

We hebben op woensdagavond en zondagmiddag twee banen tot onze beschikking.

- Woensdagavond tussen 19:00 tot 22:00 uur: toss, ballenkanonsessies of vrij spelen.
- Zondagmiddag tussen 13:00 tot 16:00 uur: wintercompetitie voor elk niveau.

Om er samen een gezellige en goed georganiseerde winter van te maken, zijn we op zoek naar vrijwilligers die willen helpen bij het organiseren van de activiteiten. Aanmelden kan bij Mirjam@ltcstartbaan.nl of Heleen@ltcstartbaan.nl.

Zomersluiting

Net als vorig jaar is er een zomersluiting op enkele zaterdagen en zondagen vanaf 18.00 uur.  Het gaat om de volgende weekenden: 11/12, 18/19, 25/26 juli, 1/2 en 8/9 augustus. Het sportcafé en daarmee het sportpark sluiten dan ook om 18 uur. Dit geldt ook voor padel en biljart en afhangen van tennisbanen.

Americano

Belangrijk om je tijdig af te melden voor de Americano als je onverhoopt niet kan!

De Americano draait inmiddels al een tijdje en daar zijn we blij mee. Veel spelers vinden deze spelvorm leuk en gezellig. Daarom willen we graag nogmaals aandacht vragen voor het tijdig afmelden.

De laatste weken komt het regelmatig voor dat spelers zich te laat of helemaal niet afmelden. Daardoor ontstaan banen met slechts drie spelers, wat ten koste gaat van het spelplezier voor iedereen. De Americano werkt juist zo goed omdat alles via de app geregeld wordt. Er zijn geen extra indelers of vrijwilligers nodig. Dat vraagt wel om een gezamenlijke verantwoordelijkheid van alle deelnemers. 

Daarom ons dringend verzoek: meld je op tijd af als je niet kunt spelen. Dit is zo snel mogelijk als je weet dat je niet kan, maar uiterlijk vrijdag om 12.00. Alleen zo houden we de Americano leuk en goed georganiseerd voor iedereen.

Blijft dit een probleem, dan kan dat gevolgen hebben voor het voortbestaan van deze spelvorm. Heb je ideeën of suggesties om dit probleem samen op te lossen? Dan horen we die graag via americano@ltcstartbaan.nl. 

Extra sproeien van de banen tijdens warm en droog weer

Om onze gravelbanen in topconditie te houden, is tijdens droge en warme periodes extra sproeien nodig. De banen worden op doordeweekse dagen voor het laatst om 14.00 uur gesproeid door onze groundsman Gijs Abelen. Bij aanhoudende droogte is dat echter niet altijd voldoende. Daarom gaan we de banen ook later in de middag, om 16.30 uur sproeien. Een extra automatische sproeibeurt zorgt ervoor dat de banen langer vochtig blijven en beter bespeelbaar zijn. In het weekend wordt er automatisch gesproeid om 12.00 uur en om 15.00 uur. 

Wij vragen spelers begrip en medewerking bij deze belangrijke extra sproeibeurt. Wij vragen spelers ook hierbij om de baan voorafgaand goed te slepen. Zo kunnen de banen optimaal worden gesproeid. Samen zorgen we ervoor dat de banen ook tijdens warme zomerdagen prettig en goed bespeelbaar blijven.

Terugblik

• Partymix en 105 Wimbledon
  Zondag 5 juli was de Wimbledondag. De Partymix, de 105 en uiteraard aardbeien. Superleuk om weer zoveel enthousiaste tennissers te zien, voornamelijk gekleed in het wit. De foto´s geven een mooie sfeerimpressie.

• OST 2026 – Jonge NRt-winnaars en wat is een hitte-index?
  Het Nationale Ranglijsttoernooi van het OST heeft dit jaar verrassende winnaars opgeleverd. In een sterk damesveld heeft de 17-jarige Felien Willemse van 3 geplaatste spelers op een rij gewonnen. De laatste was Pleun Vermeer in de finale. Bij de heren heeft Jip Langerhuizen die rol op zich genomen, in de finale heeft deze 20-jarige de als eerste geplaatste Sil Hollemans verslagen, mede omdat Sil met kramp op moest gegeven. In het padel-100 toernooi was het aan Koen Bosma en Midge de Visser om de hoger geplaatste spelers naar huis te sturen.
  
  Deze finalisten en de 50 andere winnaars van OST-finales hebben een bijzondere week meegemaakt. De klimaatverandering heeft zich namelijk ook bij het OST laten gelden. Op de vrijdagmiddag voor het slotweekeinde moesten we het toernooi ca 2uur stilleggen omdat de hitte-index hoger uitkwam dan 34. Deze index is een samenstel van temperatuur, vochtigheid en windkracht, en de KNLTB geeft aan dat bij overschrijding van de waarde van 34 alle officiële wedstrijden stilgelegd moeten worden. Na het zware onweer op de vrijdagavond herstelde het weer dusdanig dat  we het toernooi  in het weekeinde prima afgerond hebben.
  
  

We kunnen dan ook terugkijken op een mooi toernooi en kondigen vast aan dat het OST volgend jaar weer geprogrammeerd staat in week 25.

• Nations Cup

Dan kom je op zondagochtend 28 juni vroeg naar Startbaan om het Nations Cup toernooi voor te bereiden op de komst van in totaal 16 teams en ca.100 mensen en dan schrik je een hoedje…. De banen staan blank. Op dat moment was geen enkele buitenbaan bespeelbaar.

Wat nu? 

Gelukkig beschikken we over een creatieve organisatie. Ondanks de moeizame start werd het een succesvol toernooi op een uiteindelijk zonovergoten dag. Vele teams met diverse nationaliteiten streden om de overwinning. Ook het team met de beste outfit en het team met de leukste yell kregen een prijs. Op een mooi versierd terras met lekkere summerbreeze muziek konden de spelers na het toernooi genieten van internationale borrels en snacks.

Once again, a great deal has happened at the park over the past month. We've had successful tournaments with OST, the Nations Cup and Wimbledon Day with 105 and Partymix.

There's a special Americano on Friday. And in August, the Jour des Hommes / Jour des Dames and the Club Championships are coming up.  There's plenty more news to share too, including the winter activities in the air dome, volunteer vacancies, the summer closure and Americano. We've also got a report from Rolf Bredschneijder, our 1,100th member, which is a lovely milestone for our tennis club. He talks about his role as park manager.

• 10 July – Americano on 12 courts
  This Friday, 10 July, we're holding a fantastic Americano from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. All twelve courts will be available for play, so it promises to be a really enjoyable evening! Afterwards, everyone can look forward to a free drink and a tasty snack.

• 9 August – Jour des Hommes and Jour des Dames
  On Sunday 9 August, we'll be playing the ever popular Jour des Dames and Jour des Hommes tournament. The idea is to play ladies' doubles, men's doubles and the occasional mixed doubles in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We do our best to arrange evenly matched games.
  
  Alongside the tennis, there'll be plenty of good food and drink too. The day kicks off with coffee or tea from 10.00am. The first round of matches starts at 10.30am, followed by the second round at 11.15am.
  
  From 12.30pm to 1.15pm, the traditional lunch will be served, including a croquette roll (meat or vegetarian), a ham or cheese roll, a currant bun and a glass of milk or buttermilk.
  From 1.15pm to 3.00pm we'll play the final two rounds, followed by a relaxed get-together to round off the day at 3.00pm.
  
  Thanks to a contribution from the Rien Hogerwerf fund, along with a small club contribution, we're able to offer the Jour, including tennis, lunch and coffee/tea, for just €7.50 per player. Payment can be made on the day. All senior members are very welcome to join.

• 22–30 August – Club Championships
  From Saturday 22 to Sunday 30 August, we'll be holding one of the highlights of the tennis calendar: the Club Championships.
  
  It's always a really enjoyable week. Matches are played in pools, and we do our best to take everyone's availability and preferences into account. Entry is free. On Saturday 29 August, Erwin will once again be running his popular fruit stall, and in the evening we'll be holding the pub quiz.
  
  In short, there's plenty to play for as we find out who'll be crowned club champion! We hope to see you there.

Volunteers wanted

Volunteers for the Youth Autumn Competition
Can you help give our youngsters a great morning of competition? For the Autumn Competition, we're looking for enthusiastic volunteers on the following Sunday mornings (8.30am to 12.00pm) on the 13, 20 and 27 September · 4 and 11 October

You choose how many days you'd like to help out, even one day is more than welcome! No experience needed, and you'll never be on your own.

You'll help with supervising matches for children aged 6 to 17, welcoming teams, guiding them to the courts and keeping an eye on things. Above all, it's about having fun!

Member number 1100... and far from finished playing

The fact that I happened to become the 1,100th member of LTC Park Startbaan is, of course, a fun coincidence. Some might suspect that, as park manager, I had a quiet hand in it. Unfortunately, even I can't bribe the membership administration system.

My name is Rolf Bredschneijder, and since 2025 I've been park manager of Park Startbaan. Alongside this, I still very much enjoy working as a trainer and career coach. Tennis runs like a common thread through my life, not just at the park, but at home too. I'm the father of two sons who are both active full time in the tennis world, so conversations around the kitchen table rarely turn to the weather.

As park manager, I like to look further ahead than just today. Together with the Park Startbaan board, I'm working on making the park fit for the future. That means not only ensuring the courts are in top condition and working closely with groundsman Gijs Abelen, but above all thinking carefully about what our park should look like in ten years' time. The Future Studio (a vision meeting with stakeholders at the park), the plans for an air dome, and the research into the best type of gravel to use underneath it, are all good examples of this. That last project, incidentally, involved not just plenty of meetings, but also visits to many tennis parks, gathering experiences and talking to experts in the field.

I'm also active during the Open Startbaan Tournament. You may well have spotted me with my iPhone in hand, interviewing NRT players. It's a great way to put players and Park Startbaan on the map through social media.
Curiosity is simply part of my nature. That's why I regularly visit other tennis clubs, speak with the KNLTB, and keep a close eye on developments within the sport. Good ideas deserve to be shared. That way, we bring the best back to Park Startbaan while also inspiring others with our own experiences. It's far more enjoyable than constantly reinventing the wheel ourselves.

Becoming member number 1100 now feels like a nice bonus on top of all that. I might be the park manager, but now I'm also a member of the club, which means getting back onto the court myself! After years spent mostly on the golf course, I'm picking my own tennis back up again in earnest. The best part? I can finally take lessons from Xander Spong. I'm curious to see whether he has as much patience with me as I've had with the people I've coached over the years.

And as long as I still have ideas to make Park Startbaan even better, and my forehand still has room for improvement, I'm nowhere near done playing yet.

Winter activities in the air dome

Although winter might still feel a long way off, we wanted to get you excited about a sporty and sociable winter season at LTC Startbaan.

From October, we're hoping to make use of the air dome, the perfect spot to keep playing tennis in warmth and good company, even during the cold winter months.

We'll have two courts available to us on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

- Wednesday evenings, 7.00pm to 10.00pm: toss, ball machine sessions or free play.
- Sunday afternoons, 1.00pm to 4.00pm: winter competition for all levels.

To help make it a well organised and enjoyable winter together, we're looking for volunteers to help organise the activities.

Summer closure

As was the case last year, there will be a summer closure on certain Saturdays and Sundays from 6.00pm onwards. This applies to the following weekends: 11/12, 18/19, 25/26 July, and 1/2 and 8/9 August. The sports café, and the sports park as a whole, will also close at 6.00pm. This applies to padel, billiards and booking tennis courts as well.

Americano

It's important to withdraw in good time if you're unable to play the Americano, so please don't forget!

The Americano has now been running for a while, and we're delighted with how it's going. Many players enjoy this format and find it a lot of fun. That's why we'd like to once again ask everyone to withdraw in good time if they can't make it.
Over the past few weeks, it's happened regularly that players have withdrawn too late, or not at all. This results in courts with only three players, which affects everyone's enjoyment of the game. Part of what makes the Americano work so well is that everything is arranged through the app, with no need for extra organisers or volunteers. However, this does require everyone taking shared responsibility.

So we'd like to make an urgent request: please withdraw in good time if you can't play. Ideally as soon as you know, but at the latest by 12.00pm on Friday. This is the only way to keep the Americano fun and well organised for everyone. If this remains an ongoing issue, it could affect the future of this format.

Extra watering of the courts during hot and dry weather

To keep our clay courts in top condition, extra watering is needed during dry and hot spells. On weekdays, our groundsman Gijs Abelen waters the courts for the last time at 2.00pm. However, during prolonged dry weather, this isn't always enough. That's why we'll also be watering the courts later in the afternoon, at 4.30pm.

This extra automatic watering session helps keep the courts damp for longer and in better playing condition. At weekends, automatic watering takes place at 12.00pm and 3.00pm.

We'd ask players for their understanding and cooperation with this important extra watering session. We'd also ask players to brush the court thoroughly beforehand, so that the watering can be as effective as possible. Together, we can make sure the courts stay pleasant and playable even on hot summer days.

Looking back

• Partymix and 105 Wimbledon
  Sunday 5 July was Wimbledon Day: the Partymix, the 105, and of course strawberries. It was great to see so many enthusiastic tennis players again, most of them dressed in white. The photos give a lovely impression of the atmosphere.
  
  

• OST 2026 – young NRT winners and what is a heat index?
  This year's OST National Ranking Tournament produced some surprising winners. In a strong ladies' field, 17 year old Felien Willemse beat three seeded players in a row, the last of whom was Pleun Vermeer in the final. On the men's side, 20 year old Jip Langerhuizen took on that role, beating top seed Sil Hollemans in the final, partly because Sil had to retire with cramp. In the padel-100 tournament, it was Koen Bosma and Midge de Visser who sent the higher ranked players home early.
  
  These finalists, along with the 50 other OST final winners, experienced quite a memorable week. Climate change made its presence felt at the OST too. On the Friday afternoon before the closing weekend, the tournament had to be paused for around two hours because the heat index rose above 34. This index combines temperature, humidity and wind speed, and the KNLTB requires that all official matches be suspended once this value is exceeded. After heavy thunderstorms on the Friday evening, the weather improved enough for us to complete the tournament successfully over the weekend. All in all, it was a great tournament, and we can already confirm that the OST will once again be scheduled for week 25 next year.

• Nations Cup
  Imagine arriving early at Startbaan on Sunday morning, 28 June, to get everything ready for the Nations Cup, with a total of 16 teams and around 100 people due to arrive, and then getting the fright of your life... the courts are completely flooded. At that point, not a single outdoor court was playable.
  
  So, what now?
  
  Fortunately, we have a wonderfully creative team behind the scenes. Despite the tricky start, it turned into a successful tournament on what became a beautifully sunny day. Numerous teams of different nationalities competed for victory, and prizes were also awarded for the best outfit and the best team chant. On a lovely decorated terrace, with relaxed summer music playing, players enjoyed international drinks and snacks after the tournament.
