De Voorjaarscompetitie is uitstekend verlopen. Dankzij het goede weer zijn vrijwel alle wedstrijden op de speeldag zelf gespeeld.  

Het Sportcafé, deze competitie voor het eerst de leiding onder Rachel en Xander, heeft goed voor ons gezorgd met lekkere hapjes en drankjes. Daarbij is de competitie op 6 juni afgesloten met een heerlijke bbq. Veel dank aan Rachel, Xander en het hele team van het Sportcafé.

Verder bedank ik graag mijn medecompetitieleiders Nika van Dommelen en Stan Soels. Ook dank aan Monique Snel, Mirjam Meier en Ellen Blom, die allen bereid zijn geweest om op speeldagen competitieleider te zijn.

Halverwege stonden veel teams op de eerste plek. Helaas hadden een paar teams pech met sterke invallers bij tegenstanders of verloren super tiebreaks tegen directe concurrenten. Vijf teams hebben een sterk seizoen kunnen bekronen met een kampioenschap.

De eerste kampioen waren de Vrijdagochtendheren in de tweede klasse. Zij bewezen andermaal dat zij thuishoren in de eerste klasse. Het team won maar liefst vijf keer met 4-0 en haalde 25 van de maximale 28 punten. Felicitaties aan Frank von Seydlitz Kurzbach, Ruurd Stoffels, René Krieberg, Ronald Huijben, Harry Akerboom en Joop Siemers.

Op de vrijdagavond in de derde klasse liet een nieuw team bestaande uit Ron van der Heijde, Jasper Stolwijk, Tomer Brostowsky, Ionut Mitea en de invallers Mihai Viju Tim Hulsbos, Harry Zhao en Wayne Huang geen twijfel bestaan wie de sterkste in de poule was. Met 17 uit 20 wedstrijden waren zij de overtuigende kampioen. De laatste speeldag sprak boekdelen, tegenstander De Aemstelburgh kon met slechts vier games in vier wedstrijden terug naar Amstelveen-Noord.

Op de zaterdag werd Gemengd 3 als nieuwgevormd team ook kampioen. Het team bestaande uit Roberta Madau, Loes Huizing, Ellvira Thesing, Attila Czudar, Tiago Neves en Philippe Fruchet speelde in een van de spannendste poules ooit. Na de derde speeldag stond het team, weliswaar nog met een inhaalwedstrijd tegoed, op de laatste plek. Voorafgaand aan de laatste speeldag konden veel teams nog zowel kampioen worden als degraderen. Mede dankzij een sterke 5-0 zege op de laatste speeldag had het team vier punten voorsprong op nummer 2. Vervolgens was het verschil tussen nummer 2 en nummer 8 slechts twee punten (18 en 16 punten)! Hier ook dank aan de invallers, te weten Zoë Tjon A Ten, Monique Snel en Anupam Hyanki.

Voor Zondag Gemengd dubbel in de derde klasse was er kort voor de start van de competitie de flinke tegenvaller van een zware blessure. Gelukkig waren heel wat spelers bereid om in te vallen, Met de topvorm van vaste spelers Annelies Berkleef, Sandy Kandou, Erica Boers en Dick Houtsma heeft dat het team geholpen aan een overtuigend kampioenschap. Dank daarvoor ook aan Sandra Moere, Ellen Blom, Thérèse Wijnen, Clemens Blom, Harry Veldwijk, Dennis Berkleef, Kenneth Berkleef, Rutger de Groot en Hans Ouwehand. Uiteindelijk zijn 25 van de maximale 28 punten behaald.

Tot slot behaalde Gemengd 1 Zondag een prachtig kampioenschap in de eerste klasse. Xander Spong, Rachel Gans en Björn Luitink die zich met ziel en zaligheid voor de club inzetten als eigenaars van het Sportcafé, organisator van toernooien en/of trainers bewezen ook weer geweldig te kunnen tennissen. Het team is ook gesterkt door de terugkeer van Myrthe van der Boon- Vorstermans, die na een paar Azië weer perfect in het team bleek te passen. Het team wordt gecompleteerd door de vaste krachten Nicolette van Uitert en Jelmer Broers.

Twee jaar terug was het team erg dichtbij het kampioenschap in de eerste klasse. Na een twijfelachtig resultaat bij een inhaalwedstrijd van een ander team greep het team net naast het kampioenschap. Vorig jaar speelde het team Hoofdklasse nadat de KNLTB op het laatste moment had besloten om het open plekje in de Hoofdklasse aan Startbaan toe te wijzen. Het team kon goed mee in de Hoofdklasse, maar degradeerde toch.

Dit jaar was er geen houden aan. Na een zege in de tweede speelronde tegen Festina in het Vondelpark denderde de ploeg door richting het kampioenschap. Nummer 2 Amstelpark had een verrekijker nodig om het Startbaanteam te zien en eindigde maar liefst acht punten achter ons team. Volgend jaar zijn we dus weer verzekerd van toptennis in de landelijke Hoofdklasse! Na de Eredivisie met Suzan Lamens en veel internationale spelers is dat landelijk het hoogst. Het blijft bijzonder dat dit toptennis op Startbaan gespeeld wordt.

Al met al kijken we dus terug op een prachtige competitie.

Five Champions in the Voorjaarscompetitie

The Voorjaarscompetitie went very well! Thanks to the good weather, virtually all matches were played on their scheduled day.

The Sportcafé, this competition for the first time under the management of Rachel and Xander, looked after us well with delicious snacks and drinks. The competition was also rounded off on 6 June with a wonderful barbecue. Many thanks to Rachel, Xander and the whole team at the Sportcafé.

I would also like to thank my fellow competition coordinators Nika van Dommelen and Stan Soels. Thanks as well to Monique Snel, Mirjam Meier and Ellen Blom, who were all willing to act as competition coordinator on match days.

At the halfway stage, many teams were sitting in first place. Unfortunately, a few teams had bad luck with strong substitutes fielded by their opponents, or lost crucial tie-breaks against direct rivals. Five teams managed to crown a strong season with a championship title.

The first champions were the Friday Morning Men in the second division. They proved once again that they belong in the first division. The team won no fewer than five matches 4–0 and collected 25 out of a maximum of 28 points. Congratulations to Frank von Seydlitz Kurzbach, Ruurd Stoffels, René Krieberg, Ronald Huijben, Harry Akerboom and Joop Siemers.

On Friday evening in the third division, a new team consisting of Ron van der Heijde, Jasper Stolwijk, Tomer Brostowsky, Ionut Mitea and substitutes Mihai Viju, Tim Hulsbos, Harry Zhao and Wayne Huang left no doubt as to who was the strongest in the pool. With 17 wins from 20 matches they were the convincing champions. The final match day said it all — opponents De Aemstelburgh could only manage four games across four matches before heading back to Amstelveen-Noord.

On Saturday, Mixed 3, as a newly formed team, also claimed the title. The team — consisting of Roberta Madau, Loes Huizing, Ellvira Thesing, Attila Czudar, Tiago Neves and Philippe Fruchet — competed in one of the most thrilling pools ever. After the third match day the team was sitting bottom of the table, albeit still with a match in hand. Going into the final match day, many teams could still either win the championship or face relegation. Thanks in part to a strong 5–0 victory on the last match day, the team finished four points clear of second place. The gap between second and eighth place was then just two points (18 and 16 points)! Thanks here also to the substitutes: Zoë Tjon A Ten, Monique Snel and Anupam Hyanki.

For Sunday Mixed Doubles in the third division, there was a significant setback shortly before the start of the competition when a player suffered a serious injury. Fortunately, a good number of players were willing to step in. Combined with the top form of regular players Annelies Berkleef, Sandy Kandou, Erica Boers and Dick Houtsma, this helped the team to a convincing championship. Thanks also to Sandra Moere, Ellen Blom, Thérèse Wijnen, Clemens Blom, Harry Veldwijk, Dennis Berkleef, Kenneth Berkleef, Rutger de Groot and Hans Ouwehand. In the end, 25 out of a maximum of 28 points were achieved.

Finally, Mixed 1 Sunday claimed a wonderful championship in the first division. Xander Spong, Rachel Gans and Björn Luitink — who give everything for the club as owners of the Sportcafé, organisers of tournaments and/or coaches — also showed once again that they are outstanding tennis players. The team was further strengthened by the return of Myrthe van der Boon-Vorstermans, who after a few years in Asia proved to fit perfectly back into the team. The team is completed by regulars Nicolette van Uitert and Jelmer Broers.

Two years ago the team came very close to winning the first division title. Following a disputed result in a catch-up match involving another team, they just missed out on the championship. Last year the team played in the Hoofdklasse after the KNLTB decided at the last moment to award the vacant spot to Startbaan. The team held their own in the Hoofdklasse but were ultimately relegated.

This year, there was no stopping them. After a victory in the second round against Festina in the Vondelpark, the team stormed their way to the title. Second-placed Amstelpark needed binoculars to spot the Startbaan team, finishing a full eight points behind. Next year we are therefore guaranteed top-level tennis in the national Hoofdklasse! After the Eredivisie — featuring Suzan Lamens and many international players — that is the highest level nationally. It remains remarkable that this standard of tennis is played at Startbaan.

All in all, we can look back on a wonderful competition.
